A native perennial in the mint family, yerba buena likes dappled shade and handles a wide variety of soil from deep rich organic matter to nutrient poor clay. Once established, it can handle serious summer drought. Although a spreading ground cover, it politely co-exists with other herbaceous plants, grasses, or shrubs.
Minty with a hint of sage or pine, yerba buena tea is calming for the stomach and soothing to headaches. It is cooling for inflamed tissue and helps promote sweating during a fever or flue. Plus, it tastes great!
