Although some refer to it as St. John’s Wort, Susan Weed conjures up the bravery of Joan of Arc in reference to the healing properties of this herb. It is listed as a noxious weed in many western states, so it’s no surprise that St. Joan’s Wort is easy to grow and tolerant of poor soils and drought. However, to produce the profusion of yellow flowers that contain the healing properties, it will require lots of sun. The tincture of the flowering tops is a wonderful antidepressant, antiviral, and nerve tonic. Flowers infused in oil soothe skin and sore muscles.
