Because the fruits on ‘Illinois Everbearing’ ripen over a period of a few months, not all at once, its is nice to have a shorter plants for harvesting them often. The fruit is dark purple and has a wonderful berry-like flavor, also loved by birds.  ‘Illinois Everbearing’ is a great choice for our cooler summers, and it is very hardy through colder winters. The young leaves are also delicious steamed or in stir-fries.  It grows to be 10 or more feet tall, but can be pruned vigorously to remain short and shrub-like for ease of harvest.
