Chaste tree, also known as vitex, is a beautiful deciduous shrub that has spikes of flowers in late summer here in Oregon. It can grow up to ten feet tall but can be kept shorter with annual pruning. It prefers full sun and well drained soil, although we have some plants that have thrived upon neglect in heavy clay. The ripe berries are tinctured and used for female hormone balancing.
Most vitex bloom a light to deep purple, but this cultivare blooms pink.
